Trachea
The airway that leads from the larynx (voice box) to the bronchi (large airways that lead to the lungs). Also called windpipe. The trachea's main function is to carry air in and out of the lungs.

Ventilator
A machine that act as bellows to move air in and out of your lungs

ECMO
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
It pumps and oxygenates a patient's blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest.

Tracheostomy (Trach)
An opening created at the front of the neck so a tube can be inserted into the windpipe (trachea) to help you breathe. If necessary, the tube can be connected to an oxygen supply and a breathing machine called a ventilator.
